Overall impressions: hot, beautiful, hilly, very cycling friendly people. Although it was over 100 degrees each day, Oregon was one of our most loved states of the trip. Our favorite parts were morning rides and the climbing. Most days we woke up around 4 to finish our ride before the noon. The mornings were very cold, below 40. The days would warm up quickly and be safely over 100 by noon. Little known to us, or perhaps many, is that most of Oregon is a high plateau desert but a hilly desert. We climbed over 12,000 feet with 4 major passes (and many other minor ones). This being the beginning of the trip, we were still building our strength and surviving Oregon was a major test.
