Old Forge was very good to us. The rain unleashed last night and the sun was out this morning reassuring us that Old Forge was a great place to stop. This morning was beautiful but chilly. It remained cold all day with the climbs and descents. The air was crisp and "fall-like" making for great riding. We arrived in Newcomb - meant to be yesterday's final destination - where we had an over-priced cold cut sandwich from an unhappy woman with whom Eddie had a few words.
A few hills later we arrived in Jellystone - our Yogi the Bear inspired campground home for the evening. An nice place to visit but I wouldn't want to live here. the swelling in Eddie's hand is going down and I think we have our groove again. Vermont tomorrow - then a short day to Marc's on Wednesday. I have to keep my eyes open and enjoy every minute as it passes. I hope the terrain remains the same as today because it was certainly one of my favorite stretches.
The short day yesterday was perfect and today's morning started just as well. We opted to indulge in more of Nathan's doughy creations before departing Old Forge and later finished our other wonderful cinnamon rolls from Boonville by a nice Adirondack lake.
The afternoon would prove to be not as pleasant as the lyrical donuts. We stopped in at this sandwich shop for a bite to eat. We ordered subs and they were out of sub rolls but gave us a tiny sandwich with about 1 slice of turkey while still charging full price, $5.95. I claimed that the price was a little high since we didn't get a full sub but she stated that, "turkey in the mountains cost $4.00 for a ¼ lb." I pointed to the wafer thin slice of turkey on the sandwich and said that it doesn't look like a ¼ lb to me. "Are you trying to start trouble!?" she retorted. Some other patrons quickly cleared out of the building. Maybe I'm messing with the wrong mama?
After paying for the sandwiches we retired to the outside picnic tables to converse with some other travelers when my favorite woman comes storming out shouting, "Will you be PAYING for those sandwiches!!!!???" I stated that we had already paid our $15.75 and followed her back into the diner and continued with "What's the problem! Are you looking for trouble?" The locals at the counter chuckled to themselves.
