backroads of ny state

Eddie finally pooped today for the first time in 3 days. Apparently extended activity makes him anal retentive. Anyhow it took a can of peaches, some plums, and 25 miles on the road but it happened. Thank goodness. He got really quiet by the end of the ride yesterday - deep in thought about how great it would be to empty his colon. Now he can focus on the enjoyment of riding again. Peaches will be on the menu for the next week until we dismount in Maine. Maine, lovely Maine….We have 7 or 8 more riding days left…make that 6 days including a couple under 70 miles…nice and slow to the finish. Today's ride offered more hills even steeper then yesterday but nothing very long or tedious. I am still enjoying being back in the hills. We had another great meal in Redfield, NY. The sub artisan (owner?) knew a lot about the roads and said the road we will take tomorrow (Moose Creek Rd) is or will be one of our most beautiful days of riding. Weather permitting I hope he's right!

We arrived in Boonville with the town fair in full swing. 2 miles outside of town, Eddie and I ate a meal of pasta and sauce after having settled in for the night. While inside the campsite's barn/field house we actually got to watch the final Time Trail of the Tour. A kind neighbor had seen our bikes and brought us some stickybuns to fuel our next day. She and her husband are hoping to ride next year. What a wonderful surprise. The owner of the campground is great and I think his name is Frank as well. That would be the 3rd great Frank we've met on this trip. He's got lots of land where people park their RVs for the season (or forever).

We've been privy to the strange phenomena in America starting with the widespread proliferation of backyard trampolines in Oregon, to the fake deer running amuck throughout the Midwest and the RVs everywhere else. America - land of the RV.

We've found an oasis for bike camping just outside of Boonville. If only I can remember its name? Stysh's Brown Barn! (the glory of google). The owner of the campground gave us a nice tour of the campground and showed us possible camping spots. We opted to be closer to the kitchen and facilities but would definitely have loved to camp off in the woods someplace.
