still riding...

Eddie was tired and had some achilles pains, but I think that it was the lack/void/utter absence of the "Welcome to Idaho" sign that was the low-point of the day. Today was fairly zippy without the major climbs found in Oregon. The heat is also subsiding a bit making riding a lot more comfortable. Though it barely rains, the desert land is doused with water creating a plush farming landscape. Logging trucks from Oregon have given way to livestock trucks - both very treacherous to cyclists. Locals no longer seem familiar with tourists or cycling. Roadkill has become a new form of entertainment - sick. I do think that Idaho drivers are fairly considerate to cyclists.

Stopping at Given Hot Springs for a shady campsite, showers and swimming in the hot spring pool. The Givens were pioneers traveling along the Oregon Trail who decided to stop in Idaho and eventually opened Given Hot Springs as an oasis for ailing pioneers and workers. It is currently owned by Steven Givens - a direct descendent.

I've been tending to a small throbbing knot in my Achilles tendon all day long. Leaving Vale this morning brought an easy ride outside of the pain. The people of Idaho have been very nice and accommodating. Each person we've met at our little rest stops have offered their own suggestions as to where to go and what to see.

I hope the time soaking in the Givens Hot spring will bring relief to my body.
