Today was not what I expected but was okay for a while…then Eddie's saddle issues returned and a 15 mph headwind battled us for the last 25 miles into Idaho Falls. The wind was sheer torture after a long riding day. We treated ourselves to a huge meal at Applebee's and a hotel (there are no campsites in real cities). Sleeping in tomorrow to enjoy the free breakfast, then 50 miles or so to a campsite. The weather may become a problem with impending thunderstorms.
Windy - a complex day full of suffering and moments of happiness. The headwind hindered our progress to a near stand still as we pedaled on in silence. I could only think of the ironic titles our grand poobah of a president gives to his inappropriate military tasks: Road Map to Peace or Operation Enduring Freedom. I think if Meg named this trip, it might be Enduring Eddie's gas. Perhaps my ass is a Weapon of Mass Destruction.
I have what seem to be saddle sores. If only I knew what a saddle sore looked like. A lady at work who had bicycled from San Francisco to Los Angeles said, "Bring baby powder. You'll need it" I now know why.
