Woke up nervous to begin the ride today but crawled out of our cozy den ready to face the pain. I happily only felt moderate discomfort (thought it lasted all day). The first 40 miles today from Glenrock were some of my favorite of the whole trip. Cool temperature, rolling hills, and desolate backroads. So nice. The most eventful thing to happen from Glenrock to Douglas was Eddie's second flat tire from a big, fat metal tack. He is getting very fast at mending flats. He also really likes to use his tools and stuff (I can tell).
Being off the beaten path is nice. When entering towns, we are a novelty. Although entering towns like Shawnee, no one would know we even road through…No one lives there. A ghost-town of abandoned houses and a church - spooky. Lost Springs (pop. 4) had a store, bar and city park but the town and the 2 of the 4 residents we met were strange - and not in a good, interesting way. We opted to continue 16 more miles to Manville. It rained on us the final 7 miles to Manville where 3 Sisters Truck Stop, homemade pie, grilled cheese and tomato soup, and a nice campsite welcomed us. I am confident that my leg is getting better with Tiger Balm and the downhills.
I like the fact that we are staying at the 3 Sisters Truck stop in Manville. This morning's ride was one of those rare quiet mornings on some back roads. It was so quiet. The day's low clouds gave a sense that the world was just a little bit smaller. On our path in what seemed to be nowhere we passed a place entitled the "Top of the World" Quite right quite right.
Meg's leg seems to be doing better which is good. She has survived a period of time and bought of weather that has even startled some native Wyomingites. We have come a long way so far.
