ready for the rain

The downhill to Lander was rolling but fast. We did hit a long stretch of loose gravel which slowed us down a bit and resulted in Eddie's first flat tire. While the ride time was short, the day was long due to the flat and some crosswinds we endured for 30 miles. We did get treated with a nice tailwind into Lander where we met up with Eddie's friend Nathan at Cowfish, a bar recommended by Al, a tourist from Sacramento we met outside of Dubois. (Eddie and Al talked for about an hour on the side of the road about bike gear. Eddie's eyes light up when he finds a fellow gear-head.)

In Lander we rode to a brew-pub where we enjoyed our Snake River Brew and met up with Nathan. After finishing our beers we headed back to Nathan and Alicia's house. We went on a tour of beautiful Lander - visited the Sinks and some hot-spots for rock-climbing. There is a river in Lander that disappears into these caves and spits back out (the "Rise") ¼ mile and 3 hours later. No one knows why it takes so long or why more water comes out then goes in…Went to a late dinner at El Toro in Hudson, WY. Eddie had the largest steak I had ever seen - at least 2 inches thick and 8 inches long…huge. With pride on the line, Eddie finished his steak and even enjoyed a slice of Turtle cheesecake.

Waking up in a bed with the sun hitting the Wyoming badlands just north of our apartment, makes one want to settle down and just dream of the Atlantic. It was a difficult morning to get up. The tent is cozy but the bed has many unspoken merits. We had a fairly easy morning of riding. Dubois and the surrounding area has a wind pattern that shifts east to west from morning to afternoon. At this point the wind was to our back.

We made it into Lander after fixing the first flat tire of the trip. A small rock shard had worked its way into my tire. We met Nathan at the Cowfish, one of the local brewpubs where you can have your own mug waiting for you behind the bar. It was nice to see Nathan and Alicia's new place in Lander. After a brief tour we went to confront a Wyoming steak. A queen sized prime rib. This prime rib was about 9 x 4 x 2 and was the third largest of the sizes (king, and I think emperor above it). I finished it, savored it, and loved it. Meg had the fried chicken which looked amazing as well. It was a good day.
