the beautiful midwest...

I'll admit it - I did not want to get out of the cozy bed today. My pillow was so soft. We started off a bit late knowing that it was not going to get too hot today. Today was humid but a good day of riding. Wind - good, Road - good, legs - feeling better. Iowa does not offer great landscape entertainment so Eddie has taken over with his renditions of many songs including many original tunes such as "Party on a bike" and "Cow poop smells great". The last song was not a song at all but a series of gags, swears, spitting and grunting that occurs whenever we hit a stinky patch of air. It cracks me up whenever it catches Eddie mid-monologue…so funny.

We ended the day by opting for another hotel after out racing storms from every direction. After laying down the money for the room, we went to get our bikes from outside and were greeted by a deluge of rain. It missed us by minutes. Ahhh. Yeah, the rain stopped and we're cozy in our room. It might rain again tonight but I know we'll sleep well. By the way, there is a lot of corn in Iowa.

Everyone Iowan we meet keeps voicing their concern about us sleeping outside. They are all predicting a deluge of biblical proportions tonight. Since we figured out to stay on the county roads today turned out to be a beautiful day of riding on quiet back roads.

The vast openness of the Iowa landscape allowed us to see and perhaps attempt to avoid several weather patterns coalescing about us. We could see the downpours of rain off in the distance and planned our route to try and avoid them.
